A broken guide should not end the life of a rod you love. At Guadalupe Rod Co, we offer fast, reasonably priced fishing rod repairs and practical upgrades from our New Braunfels rod bench.
We help anglers in New Braunfels and the surrounding Central Texas area, including people coming from Austin and San Antonio. Whether you fish a fly rod on the Guadalupe, a spinning rod at a local park, or a casting rod for bass, the first step is the same: tell us what happened and send clear photos.
When repairing your fishing rod makes sense
A damaged component and a damaged blank are different problems. The blank is the main structure of the rod; guides, wraps, grips, and reel seats are the parts fitted around it. A sound blank with a broken guide or worn grip can still have plenty of fishing ahead of it.
We look at the condition of the whole rod, the work involved, and what you want from it. Sometimes a straightforward replacement is the sensible choice. Sometimes the cost of a major rebuild makes a replacement rod worth considering. You get the proposed work, cost, and expected timing before deciding.
Broken guides, cracked inserts, and loose wraps
A bent frame, cracked ceramic insert, missing ring, or guide that moves under its wraps needs attention. A damaged insert can feel surprisingly small while still damaging your line. If you keep finding unexplained abrasion near the same part of the rod, inspect the guides before blaming the line.
For a guide replacement, we remove the damaged component and its old wrap, inspect the area underneath, fit a suitable guide, then wrap and finish the replacement. Matching the existing guide style and thread color is often possible, although discontinued components and aged finishes can affect how close the match will be.
- Fly rods: stripping guides, snake guides, and single-foot guides.
- Spinning and casting rods: damaged frames, worn inserts, and loose guide wraps.
- Finish work: failed or damaged wraps around otherwise sound components.
A guide replacement is also a good opportunity to check the rest of the rod. Finding a second damaged guide at the bench is better than discovering it during your next trip.
Broken tip-top or snapped rod tip?
The tip-top is the guide at the very end of the rod. If that guide is bent, loose, missing, or has a damaged insert while the blank underneath remains sound, a correctly sized replacement can get the rod fishing again.
If the actual blank has snapped, the decision changes. A very short break near the end may leave enough sound material for a new tip-top, but shortening the rod changes its original length and can change how the tip behaves. That option needs an evaluation; it is not a promise to restore the original rod.
A break farther down a section may require a replacement section from the manufacturer. We do not offer structural blank repairs. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo showing where it sits on the rod, and we will explain the practical next step.
Rod upgrades that improve how it fishes
Your rod does not need to be broken to benefit from bench work. A grip that never felt comfortable, a reel seat that does not hold your reel well, or components showing their age can be worth discussing.
- Grip replacement: address worn cork or discuss a shape that better fits your hand.
- Reel-seat work: evaluate loose or worn hardware and compatible replacement options.
- Guide and hardware upgrades: choose components appropriate for the line, environment, and fishing you actually do.
- Wraps and refinishing: repair damaged wraps or refresh component areas as the project allows.
Upgrades need to suit the existing blank. New hardware does not turn a light creek rod into a heavy bass rod. If your fishing has changed substantially, a custom rod build may be the more useful conversation.

Fishing rod repair questions
Can you repair a rod from another brand?
Send the brand, model, and photos. We can evaluate component repairs on rods from other makers; whether the work makes sense depends on condition and available parts.
Can I keep fishing with a cracked guide?
We recommend having it checked first. An insert that damages line can turn a small component problem into a lost fish or broken line.
Do repairs have a fixed price?
The work and parts determine the price. We provide a clear plan and cost for your rod rather than quoting every repair as the same job.
